Holy Angels

Warming Center

Extends its Season

through April 15, 2011

The kindness of an anonymous donor is touching countless lives in downtown Flint. Catholic Charities’ Holy Angels Warming Center, whose season runs from December through March, will remain open for an additional two weeks, through Friday, April 15, 2011, thanks to a generous gift from a St. Michael High School graduate. Originally scheduled to close for the season on Thursday, March 31, the Warming Center will continue to serve clients as the weather gets warmer.  “A single act of kindness touches so many lives,” states Catholic Charities president & CEO Vicky L. Schultz. “The donor spent some time with our clients, and was deeply moved. It was a spontaneous act of giving.  We are unbelievably grateful – and so are the individuals who have come to depend on the Warming Center.”

The Holy Angels Warming Center opened in December 2010, offering clients a warm place away from the winter cold, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.  Located in the cafeteria of the old St. Michael School/Schools of Choice (517 Fifth Avenue at Saginaw Street) cafeteria, the facility opens in December and had been scheduled to close for the season on March 31, until someone stepped up. “You can never tell what the day will bring.  This was totally unexpected,” according to Jon Manse, Community Service Director at Catholic Charities.  “This is the first season we have offered the Warming Center program, and it has been a remarkable experience.  We have been blessed by several generous donors who came forward to help those in need.” Catholic Charities took on ownership of the St. Michael School building in the fall of 2010, also opening the Holy Angels community Closet (open Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.) and the Holy Angels Soup Kitchen at the same site, serving sandwiches and hot soup Monday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.

A Little Yard Work

at NESK

Men from Chinmaya Seva Samiti and Woodside Church (both located in Flint) came together to perform some much-needed landscaping at NESK

Chinmaya Seva Samiti provided $500 for the purchase of landscape materials and is also participating in the North End Soup Kitchen Adopt a Day Program by sponsoring one full day ($500) and one half day ($250) at the Soup Kitchen. Thanks to everyone who worked so hard to make NESK so beautiful!

St. Francis Xavier Youth Provides Basic Needs Items

We were happy to welcome a group of middle school student from St. Francis Xavier Parish in Ottisville on June 7.  The group experienced lunch at Holy Angels Soup Kitchen, and toured our Sr. Claudia Burke Center for Hope before presenting a large box of personal needs items they had assembled for distribution in our Holy Angels Community Closet.

If you would like to schedule a Hope Tour of our facilities,
