 Quilters Garden Helps

Put Hope in a Box this Christmas

The Quilters Garden in Fenton is helping to bring Christmas to the children at Catholic Charities Soup Kitchens. Last year, more than 225 children received a gift, along with towels and socks for more than 150 adults on Christmas Day at the North End Soup Kitchen. One donor was the lucky winner of a beautiful handmade, queen-size quilt.

St. Michael Byzantine Catholic

St. Nicholas Orthodox & Our Lady of Lebanon Churches

The generosity of the community was overwhelming!  More than 3,800 pounds of food were donated during the month of December.  Thanks to the hard work and kind hearts of NBC 25, Dort Federal Credit Union and McDunnough (Fenton) during the month of December, our shelves are filling up. The success of this effort will help us to feed the hungry in our community.

We also thank the customers of Dort Federal Credit Union at all seven locations for selecting North End Soup Kitchen programs to receive funds through their annual snowman sale, which resulted in a check for $5,554.21.

Bob Pollack of Our Lady of Lebanon Parish was among the first to contribute items to the parish's food drive for North End Soup Kitchen programs on December 10.

St. Michael Byzantine's "Byzzie-Truck" was hard at work collecting food and supplies December 17 and 18 in the Flushing area.  The Soup Kitchen van was doing the same thing at St. Nicholas Orthodox in Burton.

Holy Angels

Warming Center Open

More than 3,100 people were welcomed at Holy Angels Warming Center during the month of December.  Another cold Michigan winter is moving through Genesee County as Catholic Charities and its collaborative partner Resource Genesee, work through the Warming Center's second season. The Warming Center is providing a safe place to stay warm December through March 2012.

“The response to our Warming Center last year was overwhelming,” says Jon K. Manse, Director of Catholic Charities Community Services.  “Nearly 9,000 individuals, including families with young children and college students with nowhere to go found space inthe Warming Center last year.  The shelters were full and people were just trying to get in out of the cold.”

The Holy Angels Warming Center is in urgent need of contributions to help cover the cost of heat, electricity and staffing. “We are trying to fulfill the most basic of people’s needs, including shelter, food, clothing and mental health services,” adds Vicky L. Schultz, President and CEO of Catholic Charities.  “The reality is that costs are high and the building needs work. To sustain this program, we really need the community's help."

Donations to the Warming Center and the

Center for Hope building fund are tax deductible

and can be made on this site.

McDunnough Inc.

Lends a Hand at NESK

It's not every day that an entire company shuts down to help those in need, but that's the way things operate at Fenton's McDunnough, Inc., a plastic recycler, processor, broker and supplier of recycled materials. Owner, Darren McDunnough, his wife, and his entire staff spent the afternoon preparing and serving a hot meal to guests at at the North End Soup Kitchen (NESK). "Serving our community is important to us.  We took this opportunity to tell our clinets and vendors what we were doing.  We hope it encorages them to do the same," according to company owner, Darren McDunnough.

Thank you, McDunnough, Inc.!
