Hope in a Box for Kids
Excitement was in the air at St. John Vianney School on January 12 with the arrival of 14 red boxes. As the first school in the county to welcome Hope in a Box to every classroom, St. John Vianney students will gather personal needs items to be distributed in the Holy Angels Community Closet. Students will work to earn equipment to use when they plant their urban garden this spring. Holy Angels
Warming Center Open More than 3,100 people were welcomed at Holy Angels Warming Center during the month of December. Another cold Michigan winter is moving through Genesee County as Catholic Charities and its collaborative partner Resource Genesee, work through the Warming Center's second season. The Warming Center is providing a safe place to stay warm December through March 2012.
“The response to our Warming Center last year was overwhelming,” says Jon K. Manse, Director of Catholic Charities Community Services. “Nearly 9,000 individuals, including families with young children and college students with nowhere to go found space inthe Warming Center last year. The shelters were full and people were just trying to get in out of the cold.”
The Holy Angels Warming Center is in urgent need of contributions to help cover the cost of heat, electricity and staffing. “We are trying to fulfill the most basic of people’s needs, including shelter, food, clothing and mental health services,” adds Vicky L. Schultz, President and CEO of Catholic Charities. “The reality is that costs are high and the building needs work. To sustain this program, we really need the community's help."
Donations to the Warming Center and the
Center for Hope building fund are tax deductible
and can be made on this site.

McDunnough Inc.
Lends a Hand at NESK
It's not every day that an entire company shuts down to help those in need, but that's the way things operate at Fenton's McDunnough, Inc., a plastic recycler, processor, broker and supplier of recycled materials. Owner, Darren McDunnough, his wife, and his entire staff spent the afternoon preparing and serving a hot meal to guests at at the North End Soup Kitchen (NESK). "Serving our community is important to us. We took this opportunity to tell our clinets and vendors what we were doing. We hope it encorages them to do the same," according to company owner, Darren McDunnough.
Thank you, McDunnough, Inc.!
